Motherwell Bridge Homes in on Property DealJuly 19, 2006 Motherwell Bridge Ltd, the Lanarkshire-based engineering contractor, has confirmed that it is to sell half of its Motherwell site to the Stirling-based property developer Bett Homes. The deal, which is expected to be completed later this month will see a mix of over 140 houses and flats being built on the 10 acre brownfield site, after planning permission was granted in June. Making the announcement, Motherwell Bridge chairman Hugh Hayes said: “We submitted a planning application earlier this year, in conjunction with our property advisors Keppie Design of Glasgow and Bett Homes. “We were given the go ahead in June to build on the 10 acre site which is now surplus to our requirements and the old office block and derelict workshops which were once there have now been demolished.” The company has however preserved the landmark water tower, which is now being repaired and repainted by group company, MB Inspection Ltd, through its Hi-Rope subsidiary. The repainted tower will remain a feature of the site as part of the housing development. Mr Hayes added: “The remaining 10 acres are in full use by Motherwell Bridge notably the Heat Exchanger and Storage Tank divisions of MB Engineering Services, and the machine shop operations of MB Aerospace.” Mr Hayes also noted that MB Aerospace is producing 150 new types of aero-engine spares this year, as a result of last year’s contract win with Rolls Royce, and as a result will be looking to increase headcount at both its Motherwell and |
